Review: The Amazing Sphericam Camera

The amazing sphericam. Checkout Why.
With Sphericam, you push a button to record totally spherical video in high resolution 4K - the exact resolution needed for ideal performance on today's VR headsets. It also looks amazing on a tablet or even in full screen on a desktop.

Other 360º cameras are full of compromises and are no fun to use. They either don't deliver the resolution, or require lots of difficult tricks. None of them allow completely synchronized capture of every pixel in every direction.
Sphericam has been engineered from the beginning, with every factor in mind towards creating a correct, best-in-class spherical image, without any hassle, in a reliable and easy way.

Tiny Form Factor
65mm diameter from lens to lens. With the lenses so close together, you can also get closer to the action.
GLOBAL SHUTTER
Every pixel in the sphere is captured at the same moment. There is no other spherical video camera in existence that can do this.
4K Resolution
With a spherical resolution of 4096x2048, you get a Full HD view when watching these videos in a VR Headset, or interactively on a tablet or PC.
60FPS
With a maximum frame rate of 60FPS, this camera will be able to follow any action you throw at it.
Total Synchronization
White balance, exposure, and everything else is fully synchronized. No messy post-production or dirty tricks, just easy results.
Maximum Bit Rate
We record using 6 cameras in maximum quality. It's more than 1 Gigabit per second. You won't be losing quality.

Sphericam 2 is a spherical, 360º camera that allows you to capture absolutely everything around you in high resolution without any blind spots. You can watch the resulting videos on a VR Headset (like Oculus Rift, Samsung Gear VR or Google Cardboard) or on your iPad, tablet, PC or mobile phone.
Use Sphericam's removable legs (invisible to the camera!) when you want to protect your camera against impact.
Most cinematic VR creation attempts so far have been, well, less real and more virtual. Think blind spots, uneven stitching and mismatched white balance from unsynchronised sensors. There just aren't many people who want to go through the months of training required to operate 6 sports cameras stuck together, and the tremendous amount of tricky post processing that is needed to make such footage watchable.
Thankfully all that is a thing of the past. With Sphericam 2, we are VR ready.
Sphericam 2 has been designed to deliver the specific resolution and frame rate of today's VR Headsets such as Oculus Rift and Gear VR: 4096x2048 pixels at 60 frames per second.

A mini miracle that is no bigger than a tennis ball, Sphericam 2 is by far the best 360 degree video camera out there. Six cameras work seamlessly together to capture the world around you in stunning 4K resolution. In other words, you can capture great looking VR video content straight out of the box.
Sphericam 2 turns heads even before it’s turned on. Its breathtaking crystalline shape has been sculpted from anodised aluminium, letting you give it tough love during your adventures. And with a host of mounting options, there are many ways to hold (and behold) this camera. So whether it’s happening behind your back, under your feet or over your head, it’s all happening on your Sphericam.
With WiFi and streaming baked right in, viewing and sharing content on your smartphone and desktop is a breeze. Our mobile app allows you to start/stop recording, monitor the view, while recording, transfer, view, edit and spread instant VR-love.
Here’s what makes Sphericam 2 makes a real game changer.
It’s incredible how much we’ve squeezed inside a form so small to generate pro-grade, easy-to-use 360 videos. Here’s a quick look at the guts of this gutsy camera.

*6 image sensors
*6 lenses
*WiFi button
*On/Off button
*Micro USB port
*8 Tripod Mounts
*4 Microphones
*6 Micro SD Card Slots
*File formats and Quality
For professional usage, Sphericam can capture huge files in a very high bitrate, in lossless (or nearly lossless) quality. For more casual use, Sphericam can output files that are smaller but still in very, very high quality.
Pro quality
Six individual videos, up to 60FPS in Cinema DNG, up to 2.4 gigabits per second bitrate total (300 megabytes per second) using the fastest type of memory card (Sandisk Extreme Pro). At 30FPS, it is entirely lossless. At 60FPS, it is slightly lossy, but in practical terms, you will still have as much freedom as possible in post production for color grading.
High quality compression Six individual videos, compressed in H.264 (in an mp4 file) up to 600 megabits per second (100 Mbit/sec per camera).
Realtime stitching resolution/quality
One single stitched panoramic video written to the internal memory of the camera in real time. We are aiming to deliver at least 30FPS at 4096x2048 resolution, in 10 bit color, with at least 600 megabits per second bit rate.
Live Streaming resolution/quality Using a micro USB to Ethernet adapter, it will be possible to stream either 6 unstitched videos, or a single stitched panoramic video, at a bitrate of up to 100Mbps. Mounting options Tabletop tripod
Monopod
Just don't call it a selfie stick ;) This awesome carbon fiber monopod extends to 1.5 meters and is light as a feather.

Magic Arm/Clamp
The mini magic arm with clamp allows you to mount and orient your Sphericam in nearly any position you need.

Backpack with Pole Mount
Use this handy backpack in combination with your monopod for walking tours, music festivals, while riding a bicycle or motorcycle or any kind of fully mobile experience.
Using spherical videos can be business, fun and everything in between. Here are just a few ways how Sphericam 2 can inspire personal and professional change.
Sphericam 2 is so effortless a camera, it may seem like the simplest thing ever. However, it took the brains, passion and patience of three men - Jeffrey Martin, Servaes Joordens, and Poppo Wit - to bring it from paper-napkin fiction to prototype reality.
Risks and challenges
Having successfully launched and delivered Sphericam 1, we know what it takes to turn a product into production.
Every aspect of the manufacturing and assembly of Sphericam is being done in Europe, not in China. We will be able to closely monitor and supervise the production of these cameras on a daily basis.
