Movie Review: The Last Witch Hunter

"Do you know what it’s like to live forever?" With that tantalizing inquiry, Vin Diesel introduces us to his latest character, the immortal Kaulder. Though audiences later this year will get to know him as The Last Witch Hunter.
This is the first official trailer for Breck Eisner’s The Last Witch Hunter, which Lionsgate dropped on its YouTube page. It features a bit of exposition by the iconic Michael Caine, which means Michael Caine is in a Vin Diesel movie. What, you need MORE reasons than that to go see this? For shame.

'Blanka': Busan Review

The mean streets of Manila are the location for Blanka, a picaresque modern day Oliver Twist following a pre-teen orphan as she picks pockets and does her best to create her own makeshift family. A Philippines/Italy/Japan collaboration and a product of the Biennale College Cinema, Japanese director Hasei Kohki shirks off the extended miserablism of Lav Diaz and Brillante Mendoza for a bright, colorful,

Movie Review: 'Miles Ahead': NYFF

Don Cheadle moves into directing, casting himself as jazz genius Miles Davis in this bio-drama looped through the trumpeter's lost days in the late 1970s.

Don Cheadle deftly sidesteps the pedestrian potholes of the biographical drama in his debut as writer-director, Miles Ahead, also taking on the role of mercurial 20th century jazz innovator Miles Davis. "If you're gonna tell a story, man, come with some attitude," the reclusive protagonist instructs a bamboozling reporter

Tom Cruise just won't let this franchise self-destruct. Tom Cruise’s rock-hard commitment to being an action hero you have no choice but to accept this most convoluted of sequels.

New Review: 'The Wonders'

Monica Bellucci in Alice Rohrwacher's The WondersAlice Rohrwacher's bittersweet tale about the onset of adulthood and the fading of old ways is as powerful as it is enchanting.
The landscape of The Wonders is halfway between paradise and purgatory: the place is all honey, no milk.

Hot New Movie Review: 'Southpaw'

Never let it be said that Jake Gyllenhaal didn’t train hard to play an embattled light-heavyweight champ in Southpaw. His physique bulges with gruelling evidence of untold gym hours and chalkily vile chocolate-flavoured protein shakes. If someone – anyone? – had devoted equivalent stamina to the screenplay, we

New Movie Review: 'Self/less'

Ryan Reynolds in Selfless
o cast bug-eyed, gnome-like Ben Kingsley and chiselled action figure Ryan Reynolds as older and younger versions of the same character would seem like madness in any context except Self/less – a film whose main problem is not being nearly mad enough. Movie Review 'Eden'

Félix de Givry as Paul Vallée and Pauline Etienne as Louise in Eden
Mia Hansen-Løve’s Eden is about many things, any one of them a surprising, esoteric and rather brave subject for a film.
